Who gave the Albanifest it’s name?
The Albanifest – one of the top events in Winterthur – is considered to be Europe’s largest annual city festival. Every year at the end of June the Albanifest attracts more than arround 120 000 people to the city center of Winterthur. The Albanifest was founded by the time when Winterthur got the longed documents to become an independent city. After 700 years the city started to celebrate it’s „birthday of liberty“ in 1969. Since then, the Albanifest has established itself as a traditional festival. The name descends from one of three saints from Winterthur – St. Albani.
